April 2008 marked the inaugural opening of the Endress+Hauser Measurement Technology Laboratory at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) — ensuring that students in the Automation and Instrumentation program learn the latest technologies and can apply their knowledge as they enter the workforce.
6 Student Workstations
The new lab consists of six student workstations, each equipped with the latest in process measurement and control equipment, allowing the students hands-on practical experience. "This is an incredible opportunity for BCIT to partner with an industry leader in the process measurement field,” said John Schoonover, Program Head. "The availability of six lab stations ensures that all students are intimately involved in the lab activities as opposed to observing the actions of others.” It is this practical approach to education that BCIT students appreciate most. "I chose BCIT because it is the ideal preparation for working life,” says freshly graduated electrical and computer engineer Jaspreet Shergill. "You learn everything that you are later expected to do or know at work.”
Ensuring Talent is Honed with the Most Modern Equipment Possible
"Providing access to our equipment was the logical route for our partnership with BCIT, because the donation is a natural extension of the work our company does", said Richard Lewandowski. "Colleges and universities sometimes have difficulty providing training on up-to-date equipment and technologies because they don't have access to the resources to stay current in a fast-changing market. Partnerships with industry, such as the Endress+Hauser lab help ensure future talent is being honed with the most modern and technologically advanced equipment possible".
The Commitment
The commitment is initially for three years, with Endress+Hauser supplying the hardware and software. In addition, Endress+Hauser plans to periodically make its engineering experts available as guest lecturers to students working in the lab.
