Basic PROFIBUS Technology Training

A hands-on course, recognized in all industries

You will learn with the help of actual hands-on tasks, how PROFIBUS fieldbus technology works in detail. Features like device integration and device exchange are shown as well as device configuration via FDT/DTM.


  • In the theoretical part the following content is covered:
    Organization of the PROFIBUS organization, PROFIBUS physical layer (DP, PA), types of wires and components, grounding and shielding concept.

  • FISCO, Ex-concepts, segment calculation (voltage, current loads, number of devices). PROFIBUS communication method, device drivers (GSDs).

  • Master / Slave principle, device integration procedure, bus parameters.

  • In the practical part the following content is covered:
    Wiring of PROFIBUS DP and PA fieldbus segments, device integration, device configuration via FDT and PDM.

  • Signal measurement with Bus analysis with the latest tools, procedures for troubleshooting, device replacement.


  • At the end of the course you will be able to design and commission a PROFIBUS fieldbus network.

  • You will also understand the benefits of the technology and know the procedure for troubleshooting.

Evaluation methodology

Participants are given time to work with the various components of a PROFIBUS fieldbus network.

We put emphasis on a balanced approach to theory and practice as well as a vendor-neutral atmosphere.

Mornings are spent learning the theoretical background and afternoons with the actual components and integration of the field devices into the system.

Almost half the course is spent on giving you ample opportunity to use what you have learned in hands-on tasks taken straight from our experience.
